Green Poultice

My body wanders in the big quiet, drenched
in a waterfall of light and air. Bees circle and
my spotted dog, legs black from cooling his belly
in a dried out pond, follows. Wild Alfalfa tipped
in stillness watches our passage.

Ahead is the future; the dark hush of trees.
I close my eyes, hoping not to be seen.
The drowsy air whispers a command,
stay here, stay here. Should I step into the cooled
shelter of listening green leaves
and the sweet advice of a community
of old souls? Stay here, stay here.

Green is the poultice
for my heart. My body wanders
in the big quiet, drenched in
a waterfall of light and air.

Circling bees and my spotted dog,
legs black from cooling his belly
in a dried out pond, follow. Wild
wheat tipped in stillness views
our passage.

Ahead is the future; the dark hush
of trees. I close my eyes
hoping not to be seen. The drowsy
air whispers a command. Stay here.

Do I step into the cooled
shelter of listening green leaves
and the soft advice of a community
of old souls? Stay here.
Stay here.
